Custom Outfits-1

I have decided to learn how to sew in order to make clothes for my dolls.
These are some of the outfits I have made so far (remember - I'm still learning!).

Dizzy's Shorts:

Dizzy needed a pair of her very own shorts for Camp Dizzy.  She picked out the material from scraps that I got from my Mother-in-Law who does quilting.

The problem with using scraps is that the pieces aren't always large enough for the pattern you want to use.  The pattern is a two piece pattern, but I ended up using four pieces of material.  Her shorts have side seams that the pattern doesn't call for.  My scraps were thin little strips so I had to sew two pieces together in order to get the pattern piece to fit.

Spots & Dots:

This outfit was for a swap on one of my yahoo groups.  (thankfully my swap partner was fully aware that I was just a beginner!)  Here Dizzy models the fashion for us.  Of course since the swap was titled "spots and dots" the idea was to use fabric with spots or dots.

I ended up hand sewing quite a bit of this outfit because my use of the machine was pathetic.  You can see the crooked stitching on one of the sleeves.  The orange ribbon was added by hand after.

The belt was a fun added feature to help give the simple t-shirt dress a little more form.
(I used a T-shirt pattern from Perestroika Designs)
I had the little eyelets for working with making cards and stuff, they are easier to punch through paper but once I got the hang of working with them for the material it turned out neat.

I also added the eyelets to some of the vinyl Mattel boots.  It helps them match the outfit better and adds a bit of fun detail.
